We have so much to offer!

History of Dundee’s Food & Drink

Marmalade

What is your go to spread for your toast? Dundee has the right to brag of the creation of Marmalade as we know it today. Over 200 years ago, Janet Keiller made better out of good when she transformed thick-paste marmalade into a spreadable version with the peel cut into ‘chips’. It is this historical significance that made Dundee the city of the 3 Js - Jute, Jam & Journalism.

Pies

Pies and Dundee are kindred spirits. No matter the filling you will find a pie encasing it in Dundee. What beats a good pie? A pie in a roll of course! A firm favourite of the Dundonians.

Dundee Cake

According to legend, the first Dundee cake was made for Mary Queen of Scots. However, physical records provide the truth. The cake make with sultanas and lots of butter, decorated with blanched Spanish almonds and flavoured with orange peel was first created by Janet Keiller back 200 years ago. Yes, the same Janet Keiller that put Dundee on the map with her Marmalade.

Breweries & Distilleries

Brewing and distilling have recently undergone a resurgence in Dundee. Local beers, gins, whiskies, vodkas and rums are now available in many of the city’s bars.
